Highbush blueberries are one of nature’s true convenience foods as they only need to be washed and enjoyed. Fresh blueberries keep longer than any other berry when refrigerated. They can be frozen. To freeze, you may place your fresh blueberries in a covered container and store directly in the freezer, or you may prefer to wash your berries first. For best results, gently wash the berries and place in a single layer on a baking sheet. You may dry them first by gently placing them on a layer of paper towel taking care not to bruise the berry and covering them with more paper towel. Place them carefully, without crowding them on the baking sheet and put them in the freezer. Once frozen, pack the berries into appropriate storage containers and return to the freezer until you are ready to enjoy them in your favourite recipe. Thawed berries will soften.
